I have an opportunity to pick up a brand new in the box Openspot4 for a good price from a fellow ham. So I was like, “you know what?” So I told the gentleman that I would come up this week and get it from him.

The openSPOT4 is a battery powered standalone digital gateway that can access YSF, FCS, DMR, DSTAR, etc. just like a normal hotspot, but this one is smaller and can fit in your pocket. Armed with you digital HT, your cell phone’s hotspot, and this nifty little device, you can connect with other hams all around the world… provided you are in range on internet and/or cell service.

I will give it a go and let you know what I find in a video and/or article here. I know there are a lot of other articles and videos about this device already, however I want to share my experience with it and also share some pro and cons as well from my viewpoints. I will always keep things fair in my reviews.
